It’s always during transition between seasons that I start to look for style inspiration. Just like everyone, I get stuck in style ruts. And as I mentally and emotionally leave one season, I need a little kick start to be style inspired. I have a few go-to places that I like to visit when I need to borrow some creative ideas.
If you’re feeling like you need a bit of inspiration for the fall/winter season, borrow some style expertise.
Here’s where I like to go:
Celebrities have professional stylists. Professional stylists are usually fashion forward and savvy about trends in the US and Europe. So it’s really fun to look at how celebrities dress for different occasions to inspire you own style. If you love the way a specific celebrity dresses, do a Google search for that person and the search result will show a variety of occasion dressing. (Check out my Celebrity Style Crush post.)
Street Style Search
This is fun. When you want a peek at what regular people are wearing, Google “Street Style” and add a location as the last word. I like to search street style for San Francisco, since that’s the nearest big city to where I live. I also search places I’ll be visiting for a glimpse of how people dress in the area.
Your Favorite Retailer
Do you have a store or online retailer that you love? Check out their site for the way they style their fashions on models. The best is if they have a “look book.” The look book is a sort of digital magazine that show their clothing styled as complete ensembles rather than just focusing on a specific item.
This is what fashion bloggers do – share ways to style outfits. There are millions of fashion blogs in the blogosphere, so find a few bloggers that you like whose style resonates with you and follow them. To find bloggers that you love, search for the specific niche you want, e.g., bloggers over 40, plus size bloggers. Some of the bloggers that I follow are:
This week’s post is a bit shorter than usual. I’m posting from beautiful Monterey, California, where we are for a long weekend to attend our 34th Monterey Jazz Festival (haven’t missed a year since 1985!). I’ll be sharing festival photos on Instagram this weekend and some of the beauty of Monterey and Carmel – one of my very favorite areas. So check out Dez & Dot on Instagram throughout the weekend.
