Jeans Trends Part 2
Slim Straight Jeans
Welcome to Jeans Trends Part 2.
This week I’m featuring slim straight jeans. For us skinny jeans devotees, the slim straight style is a great way to embrace a fresh silhouette without forcing ourselves to jump into the looser leg styles before we’re ready. The jeans I’m modeling in this post are another style from White House Black Market (see last week’s post featuring the straight crop style from WHBM). These are the Mid-Rise Everyday Soft Denim Slim Jeans. (White House Black Market’s selection of jeans offers a variety of styles, and they are pretty budget friendly with many under $100. And they are very comfortable and soft.)
When I’m trying to figure out how to style a specific piece of clothing or figure out a new trend, I do a bit of scientific research (lol!) and make a beeline to Google. I love browsing the different ways celebrities (more likely their stylists) and bloggers style trends.
For the first look, I decided to channel Hailey Bieber’s look and style the slim straight jeans with a tucked in cardigan, belt, and heels.
It seems belts are coming back into vogue and I was excited to dig out this favorite that I haven’t worn in a long time. I also took the opportunity to try these current favorite heels with the jeans (Dolce Vita Paily Slide Sandals).
I have a small collection of cardigans, but I don’t wear them much. Repurposing a cardigan as a top and wearing it all buttoned up is a sophisticated look that I like.
How About Slim Jeans with Oxfords
With a couple of slight changes – untucking the cardigan, losing the belt, and switching from heels to animal print oxfords – the look becomes a little more casual.
I think I’m in the minority, but I love the look of oxfords, and in addition to this animal print slip-on pair I have black patent leather, silver wingtip, and black nubuck with a white sole. A woman wearing an oxford shoe communicates confidence.
Denim on Denim
Denim on denim continues to be a Yes. The pairing of a jeans jacket, white tank, and casual slip-on sneakers (Rothy’s – see the September promotion below) with the straight jeans creates a simple, relaxed look.
I have three jeans jackets, and this is my all-time favorite (can you see the frayed cuffs and edges?). It’s by Gap. I love the worn in look of it, as long as it’s paired with non-grungy pieces.
I notice that the jeans are bunched up a little at my ankles. Until recently, the scrunching of jeans at the ankle has been a fashion faux pas, but I’ve seen at least one recent article declaring a green light for this look. Not sure if I really like that look, however.
Try Slim Jeans with Chunky Booties
Adding a boot with a heel elongates the leg even more – heels do that. In this look the jeans are topped with a black button shirt. I decided to try tying it for a whimsical vibe.
Roll or Cuff Your Long Jeans
Roll or cuff long jeans for a casual look and to shorten them without having to actually alter the jeans. I’ve been seeing this look still throughout the summer. I’m not sure if it will continue to be a fresh look through the fall and winter. But it’s an easy way to get the hem to clear the top of your boots.
In this look I tucked in the shirt. See the two looks side by side below. When tucking in a blouse or shirt, lift your arms so the shirt pulls up a little. This should give you the right amount of drape at the waist. You can either tuck in the back or leave the back untucked for a more casual feeling.
Slim Straight Jeans
The White House Black Market Mid-Rise Everyday Soft Denim Slim Jeans featured in this post and pictured below get a thumbs up from me. They are super soft and comfy and the straight leg is elongating to the leg. I really like the medium wash too.
