11 Spring 2023 Fashion Trends That You Can Actually Wear
Although it still feels like winter in the U.S., spring is only a month away! 😳 It’s time to explore spring fashion trends!
Take a minute to Google spring fashion trends; you’ll find a variety of sources that let us know what the trends will be for spring, ranging from Vogue to Glamour to AARP!
When I research the fashion trends for spring 2023, I’m looking for trends that a real person would actually wear. It’s fun to delve into high fashion, but, really, I can’t see myself rocking a white dress shirt jumpsuit, wearing a sequined outfit, or sporting a hooded dress.
When I’m browsing a new season’s trends, I look for those that can be incorporated into a “normal” person’s outfits. That might mean interpreting a trend as an accessory or wearing something that’s simply inspired by some of the high fashion trends.
Most of us aren’t walking the red carpet or performing on a stage. We want to have fun with this spring’s fashion trends, but we need them to work for our everyday lives.
I’m pretty sure that clothing manufacturers don’t imagine that the woman who has a somewhat “normal” life will be wearing the spring fashion trends depicted in the photo below! So, they use the “high fashion” trends to interpret what they offer at retail to us regular people.
Among the spring 2023 fashion trends that have been featured during NY Fashion Week and in the fashion world are a number of things that we can actually wear. These are my favorites.
Note: I’ve curated a variety of options for each fashion trend for you to explore, be inspired by, and shop.
Keep in mind that of those items featured in the widgets below, there are often color options that you’ll see once you click on the item. Refer to the spring color trends covered in this post to make shopping for spring trends more fun.
Also, it’s interesting to notice that many of these items incorporate more than one spring fashion trend, for example, denim + ruffles.

It’s baaaack! It seems like we’ve just purged our closets of the cargo pants style, right? This spring, that pocket style is making a comeback. But like all fashion that cycles back, it’s different.
This season’s cargo look focuses on cargo pockets! We’ll be seeing cargo pocket style on pants, yes, and also in skirts and dresses, jacket, and even handbags and totes.
I have a sense that lots of people have a soft spot in their hearts for the cargo look. So I say thumbs up to the fashion trend.
Are we back in the 90s?! Oversize seems to be back in style. This spring (and probably moving into fall) the oversize blazer, as well as oversize suiting, is making a statement.
In this post, we noted that a blazer is a must-have piece for a classic wardrobe. The oversize blazer can play that part this spring. This could be a simple update to your spring closet.
Pair an oversize blazer with springy white or ecru jeans or even denim jeans. I’d recommend following the guideline of wearing closing fitting clothing on the bottom if you’re wearing roomy on top.
SHEER, FRINGE & TASSLES
I’ve smooshed these three trends into one category. If you Google these spring 2023 trends, you’ll likely find runway-worthy interpretations–dresses that look to be made of all fringe, sheer looks that leave little to the imagination, and tassels in places that surprise you.
I have no doubt, however, that clothing manufacturers realize that us regular folks want to rock the trends but not the way designers show them at glitzy, celebrity-level fashion shows.
Look for clothes and accessories that incorporate these fun trends in a low-key way: sheer sleeves or necklines, tasseled bags, or tops that incorporate maybe a tassel tie, and fringe on jackets, purses, shoes.
SLIM MIDI & MAXI SKIRTS
I’m a little on the fence with this spring fashion trend. At first I loved the idea. The more I think about it, I’m now wondering if it’s something that will look great on younger women but could make us over 50s look a little dowdy. The jury is out for me until I actually try the look.
The positive thing is that the silhouette is slim. I can visualize the style with a close fitting t-shirt or tank top.
Being a sucker for stripes, I’m looking forward to the stripe-y options that we’ll see this spring.
Stripes can be such a fresh spring pattern. Bold stripes are fun, but, beware, some bold stripe patterns can swallow you up. If you’re shopping for stripes, take a good look in the mirror to confirm that your face hasn’t disappeared into the shadow of the stripes.
Leather/faux leather is getting playful. We don’t always think of leather as something to wear in spring. But when it’s done in soft or muted colors, it takes on a whole new spring personality.
It’s time to look beyond the leather jacket. Leather/faux leather jackets will be a spring thing, but so will clothing made from leather and faux leather.
This might feel a little outside your comfort zone, but if you find a piece that you love, go for it! My inclination would be to look for faux leather which will be must less expensive than real leather–a plus if the trend doesn’t last too long.
LACE & LASER CUT
Again, I’m putting two different trends in the same bucket here.
Lace is a feminine fashion trend that will be easy to incorporate into “regular person” clothes this spring. Look for lace sleeves or lace detail in all kinds of clothes.
Laser cut is a fun, kind of futuristic, trend. Like the lace detail, look for sleeves with laser cut detail and strategically placed laser cut designs on dresses and skirts. You may find some laser cut styles with fabric backing that eliminates a see through effect
Denim is nothing new. We practically live in it! This spring denim goes beyond jeans.
We’ll be seeing denim from head to toe. Think dresses, jumpsuits, skirts, toppers. I’m sure denim will make its way into accessories as well.
Have fun with this trend! There are enough styles out there to fit all budgets.
So feminine! These ruffles are for grown women, definitely not little-girl-in-a-party-dress ruffles. Not this spring! We’ll find styles with ruffle detail incorporated in tops, dresses, skirts, and even accessories.
Floral patterns are nothing new, but this spring, we’ll be seeing them big time, in other words, large blooms!
Large-scale bloom prints were seen prominently on the runway, and it was all about bright and punchy hues for impact.
Florals are the go-to print for the spring and summer season. Offering timeless femininity, the bolder palettes give mood-boosting color at every opportunity.
Look to anchor this spring’s floral prints with modern accessories. Pair a floral skirt with a close fitting, youthfully designed top, or wear a floral top with modern style pants. It’s easy for florals to age us after 50, so make sure the look is clean and polished.
Florals never go out of style, so don’t shy away from investing in this trend.
We’ve gone the way of athleisure since the pandemic had us working from home. It’s comfy and there are lots of styles that help us feel “put together” when we spend our days in leggings, joggers, sweatshirts, and sneakers.
This spring, the new take on the athleisure wave is a marrying of sporty and luxury. We’ll be seeing shiny fabric and glitzy details. And wearing the upscale interpretation of athleisure out on the town will be a yes!
Alas, I wasn’t able to find options in this category from my retail sources. But I love the thought of this spring fashion trend, and I had to include it.
Look for shiny fabrics and sparkly details in the typically casual athleisure wear.
