Sockless Spring – You Need These Solutions
This may not be the sexiest blog post, but, trust me, this is stuff you will be so happy to know about!
When you hear “summer feet,” what do you think of? Pedicures for sure. Sandals. Flip flops. Espadrilles. Dipping your toes in the pool or maybe the ocean! Me too.
Also, in spring and summer, I also like to wear sneakers and sometimes even low-cut booties. But going sockless with spring and summer shoes presents an issue: I don’t like the feel of sweaty feet inside shoes.
In my quest to remedy this disagreeable situation, I’ve found and tested (aka “used”) three different products that each, in their own way, address the issue. I’m sharing these sockless solutions with you.
Summer Soles has been a go-to product for me since I discovered them. They are a life saver, adding comfort to shoes when going sockless and diminishing or eliminating the sweaty feet syndrome. They are available to purchase in a variety of designs (just for fun and coordinating with your shoes) and are available in a style for flip flops (or thong style). Super easy to use and totally worth the low price of $8 per pair (quantity discounts available). I like the suede insoles from the styles available. Check out my Summer Soles review post from June 2016 – when Dez & Dot was just a baby!)
Gekks are described as “the sock that locks.” Gekks are basically a sock insert that stays in the shoe. Each pair comes with “adhesive fasteners” that attach inside the shoe. The soft, sock insert then attaches to the fasteners.
I like Gekks but have found that the fasteners don’t easily match with the grips on the socks in every pair. This is likely user error, and this hasn’t caused a big problem – I’m still using them in my shoes.
I usually forget which shoes have Gekks in them, and I’m always happily surprised to feel the soft and comfortable inside of my shoe as I slip it on.
Check out my Gekks post from a few years ago when I made my first purchase.
Bombas socks aren’t a new discovery, but I finally broke down and decided to try them after being determined not to spend $10 on a pair of socks. Well, I just placed my second order. The clincher for me with Bombas is the no-slip strip at the heel of the socks. They DO NOT slip down. Even when wearing with booties. (Imagine angelic singing here.) I am sold. I’ve been wearing them with slip-on sneakers as well, and they are great. The booties thing is what I’m most excited about because socks that show while wearing booties is just not a look you want. However, in the past, when trying to solve that issue with low cut athletic socks, I was constantly having to pull the back of the socks up as they were constantly scrunching down under my heel. So frustrating! I like the lightweight no-show style and just tried the low-cut lightweight style and LOVE it! I wore them with a low-cut slip-on sneaker – they were invisible, but I was wearing socks!
I have neutral colors, however, there are a lot of fun solids and tie dyes if that’s your thing. I have been matching the color of the Bombas with my shoe color, or going with a nude that matches my skin tone, just in case a bit peeks out.
An example of a time Bombas would have made a difference: During our vacation to Melbourne in February we walked A LOT. I was wearing my favorite Rothy’s slip-on sneakers on a day we walked to the city – about a 6 or 7 mile day. My Rothy’s (pictured in the featured photo above – love love them!) were fairly new, and I ended up with a raw area where they’d been rubbing. Bombas would have been a lifesaver! (Get $20 off your first Rothy’s order here!) (Note – my Rothy’s are now worked in and very comfy.)
Conclusion: Summer Soles or Gekks or Bombas?
There’s no clear winner between these three sockless alternative solutions. They each address different needs.
I wholeheartedly recommend getting a few pairs of Summer Soles for the spring and summer season. They are great to have on hand when you realize that pair of shoes or sandals just feels sticky as you are wearing them. Problem solved!
Bombas is also (now) for me a no-brainer to fill a variety of sockless needs – or no sockless needs (is that a double negative?).
Gekks – I’ve found these to be most useful in low-cut loafers and flats. It’s hard to find a pair of socks that won’t show with these styles (although I haven’t tried the low-cut Bombas with these styles yet).
