Sandals to Camouflage a Bunion
(who came up with that horrible name anyway?)
I was very discouraged when, a few years ago, I realized that my left foot was developing a bunion*. It was especially disappointing thinking about baring my foot during sandal season. This isn’t a very sexy topic (and why can’t someone come up with a cuter name – how about bunny?), but I know there are a lot women who, like me, don’t love focusing on a bunion in bare summer footwear. We prefer to wear summer sandals that camouflage a bunion. So it seemed like a good topic for a post as we enter sandal season.
My sandal wardrobe is now made up of styles that disguise that pesky bunion (I do hate it). For this post, I was planning to model some of those styles on my less favorite foot. But . . . aha! My summer footwear appears in many past photos, so I pulled the photos that feature my “solution” styles. (Also, I usually let my toes go “au natural” during the winter months, and I haven’t yet gotten in for my first spring pedi. Can’t model sandals with unpainted toes!)
*A bunion is a bony bump that forms on the joint at the base of your big toe. It forms when your big toe pushes against your next toe, forcing the joint of your big toe to get bigger and stick out. It’s more common for bunions to occur as people age, however, they also afflict younger people. There’s nothing that can be done about a bunion unless it’s so severe and with significant pain that it warrants surgery.
Sandals for Bunion Disguising
When shopping for bunion disguising sandals, I look for styles that have a strap across my foot that hide the bunion but don’t rub on it. There are even “thong” style sandals with wider straps that work.
Take a look below at the various styles I’ve found that do a good job of hiding my pesky bunion.
Below are a variety of bunion disguising sandals and summer shoes. Feel free to shop the styes. Remember, before committing, it’s important to walk around a bit in a shoe or sandal to be sure straps aren’t uncomfortable.
