Red and black velvet. Nothing says holiday party better than red and black velvet. It’s festive!
Continuing the “velvet during the holidays” theme from last week’s post, this post highlights 3 ways to wear black velvet jeans with red tops.
I love black velvet jeans (remember the Lucky brand black velvet jeans in last week’s post?). I’ve been on a search for a replacement pair for several years. Last year, I found a pair of Gap velvet skinnies. But I’ve actually had my eye on a pair of black velvet jeans by AG (you know – my fave). I was hoping to find them on sale during the AG Black Friday sale this year. Silly me! Who would put velvet jeans on sale at the beginning of the holiday season!
I decided to take some of my own advice from my Black Friday post (Responsible Holiday Shopping Theme: Sustainable Clothing), and searched for resale AG velvet jeans. I guess it was meant to be, because, without too much searching, I found a pair of AG velvet skinny jeans in my exact size on eBay. For $30! The eBay photos of the pair looked great – like new. The seller had lots of good reviews. How could I resist? And here they are, featured in this post. AG jeans for $30! And even better, topped with fun red tops!
*If you’re a fan of AG Jeans, check out their semi-annual sale – up to 30% off! Note that this is a “Final Sale” promotion, so make sure you know your size in AG before you order.
Look #1 – Red Satin and Ruffles
Let’s start with this fun ruffled top that just begs to be taken to a holiday party. I bought this festive halter blouse (from White House Black Market) to wear a dinner event about 10 years ago and loved it! I still love it: the beautiful shade of red, the ruffles (and I’m not a ruffly person), and the black tie belt at the waist. All the details just make it fun. I don’t think I’d wear a halter style like this now, but it was sure fun to wear it for this photo shoot!
With the detail and texture of the red ruffled neckline, I stayed away from neck jewelry and kept my earrings to a simple crystal stud, letting the ruffles take center stage. The black stiletto pumps and unique small metal clutch really elevate the look so it’s party ready!
Look #2 – Red Satin with Fun Cuffs and Velvet
This next look is also party-ready but taken down just a notch with the casual vibe of the satin blouse. I love the feature of the extra long cuffs (similar / similar). The versatile Stella & Dot Sutton Necklace (you can wear it 5 ways!) with a mix of gold, silver, and sparkle gives this outfit some holiday shine. Sam Edelman black suede Kinzey kitten heel booties complete the outfit. The black suede has a luxe feel and the velvet jeans and bootie together elongate the leg. A cute satin clutch (from Target a few years ago) is a dressy but understated finish.
Look #3 – Cozy Red and Velvet
Look #3 goes casual – yes, red and velvet can go casual! This is a perfect outfit for entertaining family and friends at your home during the holidays. Red cashmere is still festive but cozy. This sweater is one that my husband passed along to me years ago, and I love the boyfriend fit of it (similar / similar). Leopard loafers (Banana Republic) make a statement but keep it comfy. There’s something about gold jewelry that’s pairs perfectly with red. The Stella and Dot Garland Fringe Necklace (no longer available) really stands out against the red sweater. A perfect holiday look for enjoying an evening around the fire with a glass of wine!
The view of San Francisco across the Bay is stunning at night. The twinkling lights and lighted outline of the Embarcadero buildings give the City a holiday dressed-up look too!
Thanks to my photographer, Sarah, friends since we were 14. And especially thank you for letting me play dress up between our afternoon hike and girls’ night out. (All photos in this post are taken with an iPhone in low light, hence low photo resolution this time. But we had fun doing it!)
Check Out These AG Velvet Jeans On Sale
(Remember, this promotion on the AG Jeans site is Final Sale. I’m wearing The Legging Super Skinny style in this post, which is the same as The Legging Ankle except it’s a bit longer. The longer legging style doesn’t seem to be available any longer on the AG site, but actually, it’s a little long on me at 5′ 6″.)
