Happy New Year! Almost. This week in between Christmas and New Year is always interesting. I still feel in holiday mode, but things are quieter. We had all four of our adult children home this Christmas – my #1 Christmas gift! The last one departed for home yesterday (it still sounds strange to me to refer to another place as their home). So now it’s REALLY quiet! Most of my last couple of days I’ve spent laundering bedding as well as putting away Christmas decorations. But, woo hoo! New Year’s Eve is tomorrow and it’s time to get festive again!
We’ve pretty much always had low-key NYEs at home or very local. It’s not that we don’t have invitations to fun things, we just prefer to be homebodies and in our pajamas for the ball drop at midnight. Our tradition for the past few years has been to get some dinner and go to a movie – home by 10:00!
I like to be cozy and casual with a bit of festive thrown in for our NYE movie date. I took this outfit for a test drive a couple of weeks ago, and it passed the casual, cozy, bit of festive test, so it’s a thumbs up for NYE!
The Focus Piece: Faux Suede Jacket
I added this faux suede jacket in the color “port” to my jacket collection this past Black Friday weekend. I bought the same jacket in black last year and have loved it (check it out in this post). When I found it on sale again this year, I nabbed it in this beautiful shade (seems to be my color this season). It comes in several colors (I love the blue but already have a similar jacket) and is still on sale. It runs a bit big, so if you decide you need to have it too, I’d order a size down or order two sizes and decide which is better at home. Note: the port color looks burgundy in the photo but turned out to actually look more purple, so keep in mind that the color representations in the ad might not be perfectly true.
Creating the Outfit
I like the column of black as the base of the outfit. It’s slimming for one thing when you create of column in one color, and it allows the port colored jacket to be the focus of the outfit.
The colorful scarf makes this outfit a little more festive too. It pulls in the port/burgundy jacket color and adds interest with some contrasting colors as well.
In these photos I’m wearing my new AG velvet jeans. (Bought on eBay for $30 – yay me! Check out the post.) I’m not planning to wear the velvet for our movie night though; I’ll probably flip them for a pair of black jeans (my super comfy AG Farrah jeans are my first choice).
Comfortable, cozy, and festive. Perfect for our low-key NYE!
