As mentioned last week, today’s post focuses on my mission to find some stylish joggers to wear at home. After being at home for six weeks now, working from home, doing at-home things in the evenings, spending weekends at home, eating every meal at home (I’m so over cooking every night), pretty much not going anywhere, my wardrobe explorations have kind of run the gamut. I’m finding now that getting dressed in a pair of jeans and a cute top doesn’t seem like as much of an effort for nothing as it did five or six weeks ago, but I would still like to have a pair or two of stylish joggers or casual bottoms.
I started with looking for a budget option and placed an order for Old Navy joggers. I think I ordered about four styles and ended up keeping the style that is at the bottom of this post.
Then I went the other direction, non-budget, after not having as much success with Old Navy as I’d hoped. I had better luck with Athleta – more consistent sizing and better fit in general, although the pants don’t look quite the same on me as on the website models. Oh well (I really need to get back to my gym-level workouts). At the time of my order, Athleta had a sale. Some of the styles are still on sale.
(Side note: Who came up with this name anyway? It makes me feel like I should be jogging or else I’m not qualified to wear them. Here’s Wikipedia’s definition of joggers: also called jogger pants, jogging pants – casual, tapered pants of soft, absorbent fabric, typically with elastic at the waist and ankles.)
So here we go:
Athleta Venice Jogger
It’s hard to photograph black clothes, as details aren’t very visible, so checkout the widget at the end of this post to go to the Athleta site for more views. This style comes in S-M-L sizing. I ordered the medium, and it seems a little roomy. I have the small on order but didn’t receive it in time for this post. These are SO comfortable and have a kind of flattering wide and high waistband. The Venice Jogger has really positive reviews on the Athleta website, and I should have heeded the recommendations to size down. I’m looking forward to receiving the smaller size – they may be a keeper.
Note about the back views: I’m taking one here for the team. This is not my favorite view of myself. The spin class hiatus is becoming noticeable. In spite of this, I did want to show the back view of each style.
Athleta Attitude Pant
My first photo has a little attitude to go with the theme of the Attitude Pant! I like the shirred detail on the sides of the legs. These (and the other joggers from Athleta) are a size 6. I usually wear a size 6 or 8 in pants, depending on the brand. I have found that Athleta seems to run a little large, and, although I can wear size 8 in most of these joggers, the 6 works better for me.
These are comfy and lightweight but not as flattering on as I’d hoped.
Athleta Trekkie North Jogger
I had high hopes for this Trekkie North style. I ordered it in both black and mountain olive (shown below the black). I really like the style details and it’s comfortable (they all are – after all, that’s the point). They feel like they can easily be a daytime pant that doesn’t seem so jogger-y. But I think I need to spend more time in front of the mirror to decide if I like them on me.
Athleta Brooklyn Ankle Pant
This Brooklyn Ankle Pant seems like it really bridges the jogger to pants gap. They are really stylish and comfortable (of course). I like the side striping and the open ankle, which gives these pants less of a jogger look.
Old Navy French Terry Cargo Street Joggers
These two joggers were from my original Old Navy order. I really like the cargo pant styling. They also come in an olive green color, however, it was out of stock in my size when I ordered – now it’s back in stock, so I may grab that color. These definitely run large, so I’d recommend sizing down. I found that the sizing is a bit inconsistent, which happens often in budget brands. You can see that the gray (panther) color pants are shorter than the blue – both the same size. These are super comfy – after all, they are really sweatpants with a little more pizzazz – but they don’t feel really stylish enough for running errands outside the house.

Jogger Pants Conclusion
Here are my takeaways:
- Joggers with some style do fill a need (for me) for a comfy, stay-at-home pant with a little style.
- Shopping a premium brand is worth the money. They will last much longer and the attention to style and quality detail is evident. (I also looked at Lululemon, which I love, but at the time their prices were higher than Athleta’s. I also checked out Nordstrom’s Zella but didn’t find the kind of style I was looking for.)
- I still want to incorporate a pair or two of joggers for at-home style, but I’m okay with beginning to get back to my regular casual clothes.
If You’re Shopping Online, You Should Know about Rakuten
If you aren’t using Rakuten, you should be. I’ve installed it as an add-on to my browser. It’s an app that basically has affiliate arrangements with hundreds of retailers. If you shop through the Rakuten link, you’ll earn cash back on purchases from the retailers they work with. If you have the Rakuten button installed on your browser, any time you shop a site that Rakuten has an affiliate arrangement with, Rakuten notifies you with a small pop-up in the upper right corner of your browser and you just click on the link to earn cash back on your purchase. Cash back ranges from 2% to 12%, depending on the retailer. There are also retailers who have in-store arrangements for Rakuten cash-back. Rakuten sends cash back checks quarterly. It’s not a million dollars, but it’s fun to get a bit of money back on purchases. Typically, the first time you use Rakuten, you’ll get a $10 first-time cash credit.
