This week I decided that it was time to start getting dressed. Working from and staying at home doesn’t mean I have to be all loungy every day. This is life right now – as normal as it can be. So I figured I should be wearing real clothes even though I was only dressing for me (and husband). I headed straight for my jeans.
I love jeans. They are versatile and are happy to fill whatever role you ask of them, from casual to dressy. This week I was asking them to fill the role of comfort and put together.
I have three jeans looks I’m sharing – my real looks from the week. The outfits worked out pretty well. I kept them very simple – no necklace or bracelet. (I’ve dressed sans jewelry since I’ve been working from home – which is very different from BSIP or before shelter-in-place.) The looks were all very comfortable. I combined easy to wear tops with each pair of jeans, and, although I’ve mostly been wearing slippers at home, I added shoes to go with the looks.
One note about shoes – When I have worn shoes in the house, I always go to slip-on sneaker types. They are very easy to wear and comfortable, and they complete a look rather than the I’m not really dressed look” of slippers.
Mother Denim Jeans and a Simple White Graphic Tee
You know those jeans that you throw on when you don’t want to think about what to wear? These are those jeans for me. They are Mother Denim, which is NOT a budget brand. I bought these not on sale – which is not my MO when it comes to buying premium jeans. But I loved the style and Mother Denim is very comfortable and suits my figure. Sadly, when the jeans were fairly new, I tripped over curb, fell, and ripped them at the right knee. I was damned if I was going to stop wearing them, so I patched the rip and decided it was my personal style of distressed jeans!
On top: I’m not a big wearer of graphic t-shirts, but I really like this Beautycounter tee. This is a super casual look. A white t-shirt with jeans is a classic favorite and always looks in style and fresh. My house can get a little chilly when I’m working at home, so I always have a sweater or lightweight jacket to throw on. I’m showing two colors of cardigans – you can really change the look of an outfit just by adding a topper. Experiment with it. It’s fun and very easy to perk up a look with a simple cardigan.
Rothy’s shoes – I love love Rothy’s. These are the slip-on sneakers (easy to wear at home in place of slippers). Rothy’s aren’t budget shoes, but they are so comfortable and last. They are made without seams from recycled water bottles and all styles can be washed in the washing machine. I’m about ready to add another pair of sneakers in a different color.
Soft AG Jeans with a Fun Pattern Top
This look worked well for a somewhat warm spring day. The jeans are my favorite brand, AG, and this pair is so soft, lightweight, and has a lot of stretch – a perfect combo for working at home. The top is from one of my Stitch Fix styling “Fixes.” I never would have chosen this on my own (which is what makes Stitch Fix fun), but I love the geometric pattern, colors, and the shirt tail hem. It’s really easy to wear, and it kind of perked me up. The slip-on shoes are a TOMS style that’s not available any longer. TOMS shoes are so comfortable and now through May 10 (this Sunday) there’s a 30% off spring styles flash sale!
Cabi Button Fly Jeans with Color on Top
It looks like I have a place to go in these photos, but no. Just pretending. I’ve been wanting to wear my Cabi jeans again, but they joined my wardrobe shortly before the shelter in place routine set in, so they’ve been just hanging around. I love the button fly and the braided waistband (I tried to get a photo that shows the waistband but wasn’t successful). So, of course, I want a top that I can tuck in so those features are visible. (I wish I’d gotten the smaller size – Cabi sizing is generous, and jeans always do a bit of stretching. I don’t think they will shrink, but I’m going to try.)
This peasant style is lightweight for the nice spring weather we’ve been enjoying, and the soft red color was fun to wear. Color really can affect a mood. These jeans are really comfortable, so they were great to wear for my at-home work day. I slipped on these favorite blush-colored spring booties for the photo.
Although I still plan to incorporate jogger style pants into my weekly stay-at-home outfits, I discovered that actually getting dressed and putting together looks with my favorite jeans made me feel more . . . something, in a good way.
As the weather warms up, I’ll pull out my summer dresses and start to add those to the mix. But that’s another post!
