Here I am talking jeans again! This time the focus is flared jeans. Let’s face it, jeans have been a go-to clothing item for probably 90% of women for years. Jeans are a well-worn staple in my closet.
As we transition into fall and become reacquainted with our fall wardrobe, it’s fun to explore ways to style the new jeans shapes and the season’s trending shoe styles.
Yep, flared jeans are back again. Those of us who remember the silhouette from the 1970s might be doing a happy dance! Flared jeans are flattering on most figures – the wide leg opening balances out the hips.
If you didn’t get to experience the 70’s era flared jeans, you’re likely embracing the resurgence of the style too.
In this post I’m featuring two very different flared jeans styles.
Dark Wash Flared Jeans
Dark wash denim has always been what I consider “dressy” jeans. They work well for evenings out. This look pairs dark wash flared jeans with a fun heeled sandal and a classic style blouse. This is an easy outfit for a not-too-hot summer evening and works just as well for an early fall outing.
Find the heeled sandals here – available in lots of colors.
The shirt you’ve seen before – it’s Banana Republic Dillon Classic Shirt – find it here.
Need a topper for dressing up the look or simply keeping warm? I love the look of a simple duster coat.
This coat has a story. I spotted it some years ago in Macy’s. It was July. It was exactly what I’d been looking for – you know how that is. When you find “the one,” it doesn’t matter whether or not it’s the right season for it. The coat was going to be on sale for the July 4th weekend at a significantly better price. So I left it there and on the first morning of the sale, I made sure to be at the store to nab the coat. Never regretted it!
The black coat elevates the look and pulls it together for a bit of a dressier look.
Lug Sole Boots + Flared Jeans
It seems that lug sole boots and shoes are still with us this coming fall and winter season. And I’m not mad about it!
I love the look of heeled lug soles, like these booties. It’s a very casual shoe style trying to be fancy.
Vibing with Jackets
Jackets are a great way to accessorize a pair of jeans. The first one pictured, a faux suede moto style, gives the look an “I’m cool” vibe.
Adding a contrasting color with the satin burgundy jacket lightens up the look and gives it a luxe feel with the shiny fabric.
Light Wash Flared Jeans
To me, light wash and dark wash denims are polar opposites in style as well as color. Light wash says CASUAL to me. I probably wouldn’t wear light wash jeans out for dinner unless it was a very summery look.
The first look is styled with a simple t-shirt and gray sneakers (Superga – linked below). The whole outfit brings me back to high school! It’s simple but on trend for the season.
My Favorite Tee
I have to shout out this t-shirt for a minute. You’ve seen it before because it’s my favorite! It’s the Gap Modern Crewneck Half Sleeve T-shirt. I love it because the quality is really great, it has the perfect amount of stretch, and, best of all (for me), the sleeve length is just a tad longer than the classic t-shirt sleeve. It’s shorter than an elbow sleeve length but long enough to cover the upper part of the arm. It comes in seven colors and is currently on sale – you can check it out here.
I love the casual vibe of this look. It’s very youthful but not too young for us amazing women of a mature age.
The shoes, as mentioned above, are by Superga, a sneaker brand favored by celebrities. I love the styles, but if I’m being honest, they aren’t as comfortable as some other brands I’ve worn. I’ve linked some Superga styles below in the widget and also included similar styles from Sperry, which are more comfy to wear when walking a lot. The price of the Sperrys is about half of Superga.
Add a Sweater to Flares for Fall
These light wash flares look great as a fall look as well. Just add a simple sweater. This cotton sweater is one I purchased at the J. Crew Factory store – and it’s a men’s sweater. I was with two girlfriends on a shopping outing, and we all bought them! I sized down and still it’s a loose fit, which is what I liked about it. You can browse the options here. I have it in this heather color, pink, and green. It’s on sale this weekend for $34.50! Nab one for you or for the guys in your life.
This is another pair of lug sole boots styled after motorcycle boots. These are by Blondo, purchased last fall (still available and linked below). They are super comfortable and waterproof, like all Blondo footwear, and so much fun to wear!
Add a Jeans Jacket
Need to add a layer? A jeans jacket is perfect. And, yes, you can wear denim on denim. I prefer to pair different washes when wearing denim on top and bottom, so I opted for this dark wash jeans jacket to go with the light wash flares.
Flared Jeans Summary
Finding flares the fall season should be fairly easy as it’s still a new-ish jeans shape (everything old is new again!). You can find the style in various sizes of leg openings called flares, bootcut (a bit of a narrower leg opening), and even bell bottoms (there seems to be a crossover with flares and bells).
Linked below, as I usually do, are either exact or similar styles that are featured in this post.
The jeans I’m wearing aren’t included in the widgets as I don’t believe the exact styles are available any longer. The dark wash flared jeans are from White House Black Market and you can find their flares here. WHBM offers beautiful jeans styles, great quality, and prices that won’t break the bank. The light wash flares are from the Gap and purchased over a year ago.
