You may already know that faux shearling is trending this fall and winter. You can find shearling jackets in all kinds of styles and colors. Most that are in the budget friendly price range are faux shearling, which makes me feel a better about wearing it.
Sherpa is another term you may hear. Sherpa is a fabric made from polyester (fleece), acrylic, or cotton and is sometimes called ‘faux shearling,’ named for its resemblance to the wool-lined clothing worn by the Sherpa people of Nepal. Sherpa mimics the bumpy texture of sheep’s wool.
The four jackets featured in this post are sherpa/faux shearling as opposed to actual shearling.
This is one of the fun trends of the season and easy to integrate into your fall outfits. You’ll find sherpa or faux shearling in jackets, coats, vests, purses, even trimming shoes.
Sherpa Moto Jacket
This fun sherpa jacket is by Levi’s. It’s casual, cozy, and ups its style game with faux-leather details.
This jacket is a great topper for a pair of jeans and just as easily could give an edgy vibe to a skirt or dress. And I have to admit, it works well with a pair of ecru or off white jeans, as shown here.
Levi’s Women’s Sherpa Moto Jacket – Available from Amazon for $89.75 (as of this writing).
Fleece Oversized Sherpa Hoodie
This fun car coat style sherpa is lightweight and comfy. It’s an easy, casual layer to wear out and about. But I could see it also as a cozy robe-like topper to wear at home.
The large hood is a fun feature. The style is a wrap without buttons, so it may not be your go-to coat on an extra cold day. But there are lots of occasions for which it could be perfect.
Fuzzy Fleece Open Front Hooded Cardigan Jacket – Available at Amazon in lots of colors and prints (this one is called Y Brown) for $39.69 (as of this writing).
Topshop Faux Shearling Coat
I love this jacket (they call is coat but to me anything that hits at the hip or above is a jacket). It’s warm, warm, warm. And the faux shearling (aka sherpa) is so much fun! I will say that I had lots of faux shearling floating around; the coat/jacket would need a little de-fluffing prior to wear.
I like to 70’s vibe of the style. I could see this jacket paired with jeans, work wear, and even worn with a dressier look.
This is my favorite style of those featured in today’s photos.
Topshop Faux Shearling Coat – Available at Nordstrom for $130 (as of this writing). Note – In my experience, it runs a little large.
Ralph Lauren Double Breasted Faux Shearling Coat
Wow – black is challenging to photograph. I hope you can see the detail. This double breasted coat seems inspired by the a pea coat design giving it a classic profile.
If you’re a warm weather lover and have an aversion to the cold (like me), this very warm coat is for you! It’ll definitely keep you cozy on a cold day.
The faux shearling is featured on the wide lapels and collar. This would be a way to ease into the faux shearling/sherpa trend. The faux shearling doesn’t call a lot of attention to itself.
Ralph Lauren Double Breasted Faux Shearling Coat – Available at Nordstrom for $169.90 (as of this writing).
Faux Shearling/Sherpa Jackets (+ a Couple of Vests)
This fall/winter trend is one just about everyone will be able to get on board with. There are so many style options in a variety of price ranges.
If you’re not ready to go the route of a full-on jacket or coat, faux shearling vest is a way to embrace the trend without committing to a coat.
I was happy to get back outdoors for this photo shoot. It’s my favorite way to feature styles. However, my inside shoots do make things much easier and that’s really the only way that makes sense to photograph multiple outfits.
I’d love to know if you prefer indoor or outdoor photo environments. Let me know in the comments.
