Do you wear black jeans in summer? I’m never sure if black is a color that should play a role in my summer wardrobe rotation or not. On one hand, black is a classic, go-with-anything, neutral color. Seasonless. Right? But once summer season arrives, I gravitate to more color: brights, pastels, colors that feel uplifting and, well, summery.
If you’re a fan of wearing black (is there anyone who’s not?!), there’s a way to incorporate black so that it works for a summer palette.
Keep reading for some inspiration.
Black & White–Fresh for Summer
Pairing black jeans with white is a simple way to give black a lighter look and feel. It’s classic and fresh.
Adding a statement necklace in white is an easy tweak to level up black jeans to a fun summer vibe, especially one that incorporates both neutral colors.
A black and white print top adds interest to the black and white and helps to avoid the look of a caterer’s “uniform.”
Here’s another way to incorporate the white and black pairing. Add a statement necklace in white (in this outfit the white is cream). A cream color topper when the evening chills keeps that summer vibe.
I’m wearing Dolce Vita Grazie Slides in the photo below. They’re so versatile and comfortable. They’re not available from many retailers in this exact style, but you can still get them at Dolce Vita here. They’re a stylish and budget friendly. See more styles in the widget at the end of the post.
Black & Tan–Timeless Classic
There’s nothing more classic and chic than a pairing of black and tan. It’s a great look for any season. With summer accessories and a black tank, the look of black and tan just shouts style with a touch of elegance.
The slide sandals in this outfit are by Sam Edelman. I don’t think this style is available in this color any longer, but I’ve linked similar SE styles in the widget below.
Pastels Summer Up Black Jeans
A simple way to add a summer vibe to black jeans is with a pastel top. Keep it simple, like this pink tee, or choose a pastel with a little flair.
The t-shirt I’m wearing is the Caslon Ballet Neck Elbow Sleeve tee from Nordstrom. I love the longer sleeve length–the close fit of the sleeves gives it a modern silhouette.
Keep the casual look fresh with a pair of summer friendly sneakers. I’m wearing my favorite Rothy’s Slip-on Sneakers. You can get $20 off your favorite Rothy’s style with this code: https://share.rothys.com/x/OkHeDh
Brighten Up Your Black Jeans with Color
It’s easy to brighten up your black jeans by simply adding a splash of color. A colorful, lightweight scarf is a fun and unexpected summer accessory. Add a colorful topper, like this 3/4 sleeve cardigan, for cool evenings.
I’m wearing the Sam Edelman Haydee Sandal. You can find it with this link as well as in the widget below (available in five colors). I love the comfort of slide sandals and that the front strap can hide foot conditions like a bunion.
Add Colorful Statement Jewelry
An easy way to summer-ize your black jeans outfit is to simply add a colorful necklace or a summer friendly statement necklace. The colors add a fun contrast to black and lighten up the mood of a black jeans outfit.
Black Jeans for Summer–A YES!
The bottom line: Don’t relegate your black jeans and tops to the back of the closet this summer. Create interesting combinations like the ones featured in this post to summer-ize your black. And have fun with it!
I don’t typically do blog photo shoots in my backyard because I don’t think it’s fashion worthy. However, leading up to the pre-wedding party we hosted for our son and his fiance recently, we spent weeks sprucing up the backyard, and this little corner has become a favorite of mine. The backdrop seemed fun for the photos for this post, and I didn’t have to travel.
We hung the paper lanterns for a festive vibe in our olive tree, and we loved the look so much that they’ve stayed. If you’d like to dress up a tree in your yard, you can find these paper lanterns in a variety of sizes and colors here. They’re good quality, super easy to assemble, and you can add lights to them too. Our Northern California coastal morning and nighttime fog hasn’t bothered them a bit.
The slide sandals in the shopping widgets below are like (or similar to) the ones I’m wearing in the photos above. I selected tan/nude, black, and white colors that are in the theme of this post to feature here, but many of the styles below come in other colors as well. If you see a style you like, click on the image to navigate to the retailer where you’ll be able to see the color options available for each style.
The white slide sandals in the first outfit are from Target a couple of years ago. They’re no longer available, but if you’re interested in budget priced slides, Target has a pretty good variety, including knock-offs of Dolce Vita and Sam Edelman styles. You can browse or shop for Target’s selection here.
