I’m planning for our Maui vacation . . . constantly! It’s just shy of 60 days away and every day I think about what to pack, what to wear, what to stock our kitchen with, what activities we might plan, and how to dress for the tropics without baring too much. Boy have things changed! Clear in my memory is my Hawaii wardrobe during my 20-something vacation to Honolulu and my fun bikinis during our Maui/Kaui honeymoon at age 30. Then it was all about how to dress for the maximum but tasteful baring. Forward to the present as I plan my Maui vacation in my 60th decade, and my clothing planning instead includes how to style a look that is cool (you pick how to interpret that word!). Beach pants!
As a rule, I don’t wear shorts in the summer. I still like shorts, but I don’t like to bare that much leg due to a large varicose vein the runs up the inside of my left leg. Also, as I get older, my legs just don’t look that great in shorts anymore (sagging skin, spider veins – you might know what I’m talking about). I have plenty of dresses and skirts for summer weather, but I felt like I wanted another casual look that could be tropics appropriate. I was on a mission to find beach pants.
These two styles are perfect for beach or pool as well as for going to lunch or even a casual dinner. Depending on what kind of top I choose, the pants can go super casual (pulled on over a bathing suit, paired with a tank or t-shirt, worn with flip flops) or a little dressed up by adding a loose blouse, a dressier tank top, and platforms. The wide leg style especially works for a going out look.
The blue and white striped pair I’m wearing are from Old Navy (I’ve rediscovered that store!). I love them! They are the first pair linked in the shopping widget below. The wide leg pair is a brand I like called Cloth and Stone, and I happened on these at T.J.Maxx for about half of retail.
I love the look of a casual straw woven bag in the summer. The two slouch styles in this post are so versatile – they work great as a summer purse and double as a pool tote. I’ve linked a few styles below if you like the look and want to add it to your summer looks.
Another one of my faves: Tkees Sandals. This line began with a simple all leather flip flop style that is available in nine different skin tones. These are a little pricey for flip flops ($50), but I promise they are worth it. They look beautiful, are super comfortable, and last a long time. The skin shades line is available in the original matte finish, as well as glossy and shimmer. There now are a number of other styles that have followed the original, including some embellished styles, a couple of variations on the classic flip flop style, and a beach collection in 13 colors ($36) that don’t mind being wet. And, if you care about this, the brand is a choice of celebrities! Check out their website here to see all of the styles available (even for girls). Zappos and Nordstrom also carry much of the line. Tkees go on sale once a year on their own site around Black Friday. Sign up to receive their email communications to be notified of the sale. (I suggest creating an email address just for shopping so you don’t clog up you regular email account.) If you want to give them a try this summer, check out the link below!
Fun Summer Fashion
Summer is such a fun time for fashion, and there doesn’t have to be a damper on summer dressing just because we don’t want to bare as much as we did in our 20’s. We can still have great summer style with a little tweak here and there!
Shop for beach pants here!
The look is elegant and casual at the same time. Perfect for wearing over your swimsuit or even out for a lunch date or shopping outing. You need a pair!
