Athleta Trekkie North Joggers – Update
I first discovered Athleta’s Trekkie North Jogger at the beginning of our Covid stay-home experience in 2020. I, like so many of you, was working from home and needed some decent work-from-home things to wear. I loved the fit and look of the Trekkie North Joggers and over time built my collection to four pairs. (Check out that review of Trekkie North Joggers and other styles here.)
Fast forward a few years, and both the joggers and I’ve changed a bit. I’ve lost some weight, making my current Trekkie Norths a little roomier than I like them, and Athleta has updated the design of the style.
It was time for a new pair.
The Trekkie North Joggers by Athleta are still my favorite jogger pant. I share why below. And there are some significant tweaks to some of the features, as well as fit information that’s helpful to know before purchasing.
I love the versatility of joggers. In our casual world, leisure wear has become a popular clothing category. Joggers are a perfect option for so many activities: working from home, running errands, a lunch date, and exercising. And joggers are the perfect air travel outfit.
The major differences between the new Trekkie Norths and the previous version are:
- No drawstring closure – the waistband is soft and comfortably fitted.
- There are some design changes to the pockets: front zipper pockets are not angled but rather vertical, there are two back pockets, and there’s an added utility pocket.
- The bottom of the joggers is tapered in the front and the band at the hem now is only on the back rather than both front and back as in the previous version.
The current iteration also seems to have a more tapered silhouette, which I lik
Old Style Details
The joggers have plenty of styled pockets: Two front slash pockets that zip closed (so great for tucking away keys, money, even my iPhone fits), two welt pockets in back, and a fun little utility pocket on the side of the right leg.
The stretch in most jogger styles is what makes them oh so comfy. And the Trekkie Norths certainly check that box. Look at the soft and flexible waistband.
The updated style that was launched this season has so much stretch that you need to be careful when selecting a size. These have a significant amount of stretch during wear.
I’d read a number of online reviews when I first began shopping for a new pair of Trekkie Norths. There were so many comments about the generous sizing that I decided the best thing for me to do was go to an Athleta store and try a pair on. Boy, was I glad! I ended up with a size I’ve never worn before–two sizes smaller than what I consider my regular size.
My recommendation: Size down! Choose a pair that has a close fit and know that they’ll stretch out quite a bit after you’ve worn them for about an hour. Laundering will bring them back to their pre-wear fit.
Colors & Sizes
Athleta’s Trekkie North Joggers are currently available in four solid colors and one print: tan (called Big Sur Brown), black, gray (Coastline Blue), and a black print called Kinetic Abstract Black. The gray and print are currently on sale. The joggers come in regular (size 0-26), tall (size 0-16), and petite (size 0-14) sizes.
A number of friends have purchased these joggers based on my recommendation, and not a single one has been disappointed. It’s a winner in my opinion. Just remember to size down.
