Beautiful Green Silk Blend Jacket
Outside My Comfort Zone
This week I’m featuring this gorgeous green silk blend jacket by Redwood Court. I decided to share this jacket today because I like to show pieces that might inspire someone to step outside their comfort zone of what the go-to outfits are and the architectural elements and design features of this jacket are standout.
I hope by showing clothes that aren’t “run of the mill” and that incorporate some kind of surprise element in their design, you might be willing to try something different and a little outside your comfort zone. The result of coloring outside the lines (metaphorically speaking) with your style may surprise you.
How you dress can give you a feeling of confidence and of feeling stylish and standing out from the crowd.
Whew! This green isn’t typically a color I’m drawn too. And although I immediately nixed it on first look, once I put it on, I loved the elegance and shimmer of the fabric (which is a little hard to translate from a photo) and the fun cut of the jacket front.
In the last few years, I’ve been more open to trying colors that are new to me. I feel that my maturity in years has given me more confidence to wear interesting and intense colors. What are you giving yourself permission to wear that you wouldn’t have worn in your younger years?
It’s All in the Details
This silk blend jacket is so lightweight that it can easily be worn as a top. Although I’m not showing it, by pulling the drawstrings on each side and tying them together, the silhouette of the jacket changes into more of a bomber style. It’s nice to have clothing pieces that have flexibility and offer more than one option for styling.
Since the jacket has a little volume to it, pairing it with skinny jeans doesn’t allow the jacket to overwhelm like it might with loose bottoms. On the other hand, summer outfits that are unstructured on both top and bottom are in style and it’s possible that styling with a baggy kind of pant, maybe crop, would be a great look too.
Like a Chameleon
As we age, it’s important to begin to incorporate rich color, texture, and pattern into how we dress our top half. It draws the eye (of someone else) giving it a place to rest other than on the lines and loose skin on the face and neck.
This green silk blend fabric takes on multiple shades in different lighting. You can see how dark it becomes without the sun and how it shows it’s gold elements in the brighter light.
With an open neck style like this, add some jewelry. I style the open neckline with a layered necklace look. A large statement necklace would also be beautiful to fill the open space of this neckline. It helps to camouflage some of what you might not be loving about that area.
Shop Outside Your Comfort Zone
I usually like to include at the end of posts a curated selection of that week’s featured item(s) that you can shop if you’re intrigued by the look. This jacket style was difficult to interpret while I browsed my favorite retailers, and I wasn’t able to build an assortment of jackets inspired by this look.
Instead I can offer a few tips if you’re feeling brave about stepping outside your comfort zone. Edgy or interesting styles are more often found in small boutiques than large department stores. (This jacket is again from Shunzi in Petaluma.) Get to know the boutiques in your area as well as the owners or the shops’ stylists. They know their merchandise and can help you narrow down styles that can work for you, especially because clothes hanging on the rack very often look nothing like they will when you put them on an actual body. Let the shop’s stylists (aka the people who work there or the owner) know what you have in mind and if you’re looking for something that might be a little different from what you would typically choose. The owner of a local boutique where I love to shop buys clothes with her specific customers in mind. We are the ones who keep them in business, so they want to give you the best service, get to know what you like, and encourage you to try new things that you’ll feel fabulous wearing.
