Stripes and Polka Dots Stand the Test of Time

Stripes and Polka Dots Stand the Test of Time

I’ve been wearing a lot of solids during the cold weather season. I guess the truth is, I’m more of a solid rather than pattern person when it comes to what I wear. Except when it comes to polka dots and stripes. I have a pretty significant assortment of these fun prints that just keeps growing! (24 different items of striped or polka dotted clothing to be exact!)

As we walk the last steps of winter toward the light of spring, these two simple patterns will transition easily from one season to the next. They are foundational, timeless, seasonless, whimsical, flirty, nautical, classic, trendy – I have no doubt that I could go on with an endless list of adjectives! One might say that I’m a  bit obsessed with polka dots and stripes.

Recently we’ve talked about how stripes are a very “in” trend this spring. And I will venture to say that polka dots are always “in,” especially in spring and summer – almost a symbol of the warm weather season!

Now that we’ve established the appropriateness of incorporating stripes and polka dots into your wardrobe, let’s have some fun with it! Here are a few ways you can add these patterns, even if you feel a little hesitant:

Are you also a stripes and dots lover and not afraid to go bold? Mix stripes and dots, try patterns that aren’t uniform in size, go for a bright color, or a trendy style.

Prefer to play it a little safe? Go small on the print size. Or keep colors neutral.

Not too sure that you really want to wear dot or stripes. Test out the look by adding a fun accessory.

If polka dots and stripes feel a little bit out of your comfort zone, try it anyway! Adding a fun, bold, interesting, different, or eye-catching “something” to your outfit is exciting. A fashion risk isn’t that risky – if you hate it, you don’t have to repeat. But my guess is that people will take notice, and you’ll likely be surprised at the positive feedback you’ll get.
