As promised (did you read to the end of last week’s blog where I promised?!), this week we are exploring options for dressing the bottom half on those hot days. What can we wear if we’d rather not wear shorts? This post began as a review of the alternatives to wearing shorts. And I still want to list the options for those of us who prefer not to wear shorts on the warm spring and summer days. However, as I was writing about cropped and capris pants, it became obvious that this category is one that warrants a little more conversation than just listing it as an alternative style to… View Post

It appears that the warm weather is here, and probably here to stay, although the SF Bay Area may still have a lingering shower here and there. I'm already seeing a lot of warm weather clothes on the street. This typically means we see more bare skin. For tops, that means sleeveless. But not all of us want to go sleeveless, and we need other options for keeping cool and looking season appropriate. I admire women who are comfortable in their own skin and feel great wearing styles that bare their arms and legs. But there are more than a few of us who prefer to be a bit more… View Post

You may have noticed that I’ve been a bit obsessed with shoes lately. I guess it’s not so radical – it’s a new season, and I’m guessing that you, like me, feel a little bit like a butterfly emerging from her chrysalis. We’ve shed our winter darks, sweaters, boots, and coats, and we are ready to show our colors, a little skin, and wear SOMETHING DIFFERENT! When the season carries us into a warmer, sunnier time, we finally get to relegate our socks to their drawer, try a new fun polish color on our toes, and have fun with spring shoe styles. Yay! Spring and summer shoe styles this year… View Post

As spring is unfolding, we are (finally) beginning to emerge from our winter hibernation. We are incorporating more color into our outfits, we may be adding highlights to our hair, there is more light everywhere. It feels like it’s time to brighten and define. Here are a few spring beauty tips to help you get ready for the beautiful, bright spring season. Incorporate a Little Glow If your skin has lost its natural dewy and glowy luminance (pretty much true for any of us who are over 30), giving it a little artificial glow may be in order. A number of highlighting products are available to help you look radiant.… View Post

It wasn’t that long ago that wearing denim both on top and bottom equaled a fashion faux pas. But, as we know, fashion is always evolving and changing. This chameleon-like behavior makes it fun, keeps us engaged, and ensures an always-robust market in the fashion industry as we spend our dollars on new trends. In the last few years, the denim with denim trend has become very popular. I’m not always the first one to jump on the bandwagon on new looks, so it took me a whole season for this look to grow on me. Now I’m a fan! Have you tried the trend? Are you making a denim… View Post

“Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.” ~ Lauren Hutton Have you ever tried to define your style? Style is a form of expression. Your style is an expression of your personality. Sometimes the style you choose on a given day is an expression of your mood – other times you may dress to modify a mood. How are you expressing yourself through your very individual style? What part does how you dress play in your confidence and in how you relate to the world? How much fun are you having with your clothes? We all have a style personality.… View Post

I have been thinking over the past few years about how to keep my body healthy and fit so that I can be active as I get older. If I'm thinking about this, maybe you are too. While it’s a lot of fun talking every week about clothes, trends, and makeup, it's important to talk about what can keep us healthy and positively affect us physically, mentally, and emotionally. For me, being consistent about fitness is always an advance-and-retreat game. I'm committed for a period of time, and then I fall out of the habit. I don't think that's very unusual for most of us. But it is SO important… View Post

As promised in last week’s post, I had some fun being inspired by a few celebrity looks. I posted six photos last week of  styled outfits, mostly worn by celebrities. The looks I chose were all very casual; that’s because my style is pretty casual. If you took on the challenge to find a few celebrity looks, then I assume you looked for fashion that feels comfortable for you, that matches your style. The fun of doing this is that, in most cases, the looks we see on celebrities are styled by professional stylists. So this is a way to polish up your look with the expertise of a real… View Post

I have a fun style assignment for you later on in this post. But first, let’s talk about clothing care. I know – it’s not very sexy or fun. But it’s important, probably more important than you might realize when it comes to preserving your clothes and keeping them looking the way you want. Clothing preservation begins with laundering (I know, pretty exciting). Washing your favorite pieces so that they stay looking new requires a little more thought than just tossing all your lights or darks together and washing them all on the same setting. Here’s what I do to get the most life out of the things I love.… View Post
