The Cold Shoulder Top <br>4 Looks Paired with White Jeans

I’ve been searching for a cold shoulder top since early spring. And whining a little bit because I couldn’t find one that I liked (well, maybe not to you, but to everyone else). Suddenly, as summer begins to wind down (ughh – I can’t believe I’m actually saying that), I feel like I’m seeing more cold shoulder and off-the-shoulder top styles in stores, which seems a bit odd actually. Aren’t the cold shoulder look, and certainly the off-the-shoulder style, more suited to spring and summer? It could be that it’s just one of those situations where I’m hyper aware and noticing the cold shoulder/off-the-shoulder looks as opposed to there actually being more of them. No matter the reason, they seem to be more abundant. That’s good for me! And it seems that the cold-shoulder trend is going to be with us into fall.

One of the things I like about the cold shoulder look is this: Everyone’s shoulders look good, regardless of age or size Another thing: It’s a great way to show a little skin without feeling like it’s too much.

So I ducked into Charming Charlie* the other day while with a friend, just to take a peek at what they might have in the cold shoulder category. You’d have thought I’d walked into a cold shoulder top specialty store! I found several styles of cold shoulder AND off-the-shoulder tops that I liked. And I brought a few of them home to try. (They have a great return policy if you are a member of their “Charm Club.”) Two of these tops were $24.99 and two were $29.99 – can’t beat that!

About the off-the-shoulder tops here: I’ve been a little reluctant to try the off-the-shoulder style at my age. But I actually like the two I tried. They don’t feel too revealing or too young. I’d wear them to a summer party or on vacation, or even a girls’ lunch date or date night with my husband.

The Cold Shoulder Top

Gray cold shoulder long sleeve top

This simple and casual cold shoulder top is right up my alley. I like a “no frills” look and I even like the almost mock turtleneck (I’m not a turtleneck fan generally). I’m always cold unless is 90 degrees outside, so the cold shoulder/long sleeve combo is kind of perfect for me. Plus, I love grey paired with white jeans. I’ve had these flared white jeans for some years. There’s nothing that compares to the flattering balance of a flared leg.

Olive cold shoulder blouse

Olive green and white jeans are such a great pairing. If you haven’t tried it, now’s a good time! I really like this cold shoulder collared blouse style. There’s something kind of interesting about a bare shoulder with long sleeves. I was super tempted to keep this one, but unfortunately it’s too big, so I’ll be returning it.

The Off-the-Shoulder Top

Blue & white polka dot off shoulder top

I am ALWAYS attracted to polka dots, and I spotted this top immediately in Charming Charlie. Although I was looking for a cold shoulder top, this off-the-shoulder top looked cute, so I tried it. The sleeve length is fun (they do go a bit longer if you don’t push them up) and the elastic band at the bottom of the top that keeps it just right with jeans. This top also works as a boat neck style as well, so I would have the option of wearing it as an off-the-shoulder or not. Navy and white is such a fresh look!

Off shoulder bell sleeve top

I had to try this one. I’ve been loving the shirting fabric that I’ve been seeing in women’s tops over the past several months. I wasn’t too sure about the bell sleeves, however. I’m not a bell sleeve kind of gal. When I first began to see this trend in the spring, I thought, “No way!” But . . . it’s grown on me, and now I think it’s kind of a fun and flirty look. Between the off-the-shoulder style and the bell sleeves, I’m climbing out of my rut!

Can’t Wait to Get This – From the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I bought this pretty blouse during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ($29.90 – it’s still on sale!). It has a fall feel to the print, though the floral pattern is way out of my comfort zone. My blouse hasn’t been delivered yet, but it looks a little low cut in the photo, so I’ll have to see how it works on me. But I’m kind of excited to try something different – especially with the great price.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends on August 6. There are a lot of great prices on mostly fall fashions. (Ready or not, fall’s just around the corner!). If you decide to do a little sale shopping, I’d appreciate your using my link here or above. No extra cost to you, but I earn a small commission on any purchases through my link. Thanks!

Meet Charming Charlie

*If you aren’t familiar with Charming Charlie, let me introduce you. This is an accessories-focused chain store with an interesting color coordinated system of merchandising and displaying products. I’m pretty sure nothing in the store is over $39. You’ll find purses, wallets, scarves, hats, jewelry, tote bags, shoes, as well as a small assortment of clothing items. Looking for a blue bag? Just head to the blue section. Need a black accessory? There’s sure to be something perfect in the black section. The price point probably tells you that the fashion accessories and clothing aren’t designer quality, but sometimes not breaking the bank for a trendy, one-season item is perfect.
