Thanksgiving is less than a week away. If you haven't already, it's time to figure out your Thanksgiving outfit. It's best to plan ahead so that you have covered all the bases for Thanksgiving outfit essentials. Really, this should be capitalized. Because it's actually a thing. Thanksgiving Outfit Essentials. You've probably incorporated Thanksgiving Outfit Essentials into your Thanksgiving outfit many times in previous years but didn't realize that you were following a few simple "Essentials" rules. There are three basic Thanksgiving Outfit Essentials rules: 1. Wear an Outfit That You Feel Good In The very first Thanksgiving Outfit Essential to consider is what you have that you feel good wearing.… View Post

As of this morning, we've had three days of rain since Halloween. The rainy season has arrived. And just in time, I've discovered a fabulous line of stylish waterproof boots. Yes, waterproof! While browsing the Nordstrom fall sale boot selection (I always go right to the shoes during a Nordstrom sale), I came across Blondo waterproof boots. I was intrigued. These looked like normal boots - leather and suede - not like my current waterproof boot that is made of plastic/rubber. As you may know, when Nordstrom has a big sale, you have to act fast before inventory is depleted, so I put the boots in my shopping bag right… View Post

Thanksgiving is 20 days away. I'm thinking about what to wear on that day, are you? A fall sweater keeps popping into my head for outfit possibilities. A fall sweater could be the perfect Thanksgiving piece. It's not too form fitting, so it can hide that unattractive Thanksgiving bloat, a must when planning what to wear for an event that is focused on consuming hundreds (okay, let's be honest) or thousands of calories. However, I have recently realized that my closet is devoid of fall sweaters. I'm not sure why. I think over the past several years I had decided that I didn't really like them on me. Or something.… View Post

It's the Fall Colors wrap-up (aka Fall Colors Part 3!). I had fun shopping my closet for pieces I have that are close to the 2017 Fall color trends. I decided to accessorize with the last three colors: Autumn Maple, Golden Lime, and Grenadine. (I always love the names and would love to have the job of creating color names!) In addition to featuring the new colors from the palette in this post, I'm including a photo from the colors featured in the two previous 2017 Fall color trends posts. Before we move to the color inspirations, let's take another look at the Pantone 2017 top ten Fall color trends.… View Post

Downloadable Dez & Dot Color Wheel Cheat Sheet (This post first published August 2016) I need a color stylist! I am not a naturally colorful dresser. A glance into my closet reveals  mostly sections of white, gray, and black (I group my  clothes by type and color, e.g., tank tops in one section grouped by color, long sleeved tops in another grouped by color, so it’s pretty easy to figure out what colors I gravitate to). I’ve been trying to branch out – challenge my comfort zone and add some colors that I would have never considered a few years ago. I find that when I wear the right colors,… View Post

Welcome to Fall Colors Part 2! The Pantone top ten colors 2017 fall colors are influenced by the colors shown by fashion designers during New York Fashion Week. This year Pantone added London Fashion Week to their seasonal report, so there are actually two color palettes this season. My fall color exploration focuses on the New York palette, but we may as well take a look at the London palette too. Never hurts to be informed! “There is a commonality between the colors we are seeing on the runway in New York and London.” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “However, individuality is evident and we… View Post

It's fall! No disputing it now. And it's time to explore fall colors and embrace a new palette. It's always fun to see what the "new" colors are each season. Fall isn't my favorite season, but I have to admit that by the time we are fully into fall (it's October, so it's time!), I'm kind of ready to hang up my summer hues and jump into a deeper color palette. It's interesting to peek into the Pantone top ten colors each season. Adding a piece or two in the new colors can give new life to your wardrobe. But I bet that if you look into your closet, you'll… View Post

I mentioned last week that we were heading out for our annual trip to the Monterey Jazz Festival. There are many wonderful things to experience on that weekend, not the least of which is the music. But a highlight of my visit each year is doing a little shopping at my favorite festival boutique, Gerie's Fashion Closet. (Check out my Monterey Musings post from our Monterey Jazz Festival trip last year - and what I bought from Gerie.) This year I found a fun accessory, Dona Bela Shreds, and although I felt a bit hesitant to leap into this "trend setting" look, I decided to be bold and give it… View Post

It's a perfect time of year for turquoise and black. Here we are. The in-between season. We aren't ready turn our backs on summer quite yet (at least I'm not), and the turquoise and black combination is a fun way to transition from summer to fall. I used to think of turquoise two ways: A summer color A color to wear with white But . . . neither of those is true. Hallelujah! We have choices. We can wear color when we want to wear it. We can pair colors that we used to think we couldn't. (Interested in pushing your envelope a little color-wise? Check out my post, Be… View Post

Coat season is just over the horizon. It has me thinking a lot about my pink coat - maybe I should say my pink statement coat. I happened upon this hot pink coat in a boutique in the Sonoma County town of Healdsburg about eight years ago. It was on sale for a "can't pass it up" price. It was one of those things. You know those things. The thing that isn't on any list of "needs" or "must haves" or even remotely on your radar. And then . . . there it is! It's a must have! Thinking about wool coats when we are still experiencing summer weather is… View Post
