It's been a three-week roller coaster. I'm supposed to be posting today, according to my plan, about the remaining top ten 2017 Pantone colors for fall. I bet you had a clue from the photo that this post isn't about fall colors (the fashion accessory pictured here has been prevalent in Sonoma County over the past week). No clothes, or makeup, or shoes, or jewelry this week. On my mind is what we all need to do to be prepared. (If you'd rather read something fashion-y and fun, check out this post Be Your Own Color Stylist, posted in August 2016. Use it to experiment with the new fall colors!)… View Post

What to pack for a girls weekend getaway? I’ve just returned home from an annual girls weekend and it’s fresh on my mind. What to pack, of course, is guided by the activities that are planned. My packing list was simple. This girls weekend, hosted by one of my close friends at her home, was focused on staying put! This was the 9th annual gathering of a group of friends that I’ve known for over 45 years. Through junior high and high school and all the life that 45+ years represent we have remained friends. Some of these beautiful friends I see regularly and others once or twice a year.… View Post

This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love. Thinking about summer, it's dawned on me that I’ve been hyper-focused on spring, as evidenced by all the blog posts with the word "spring" in them! I guess that’s not completely out in left field, since we are living spring. But my obsession with it, following the rainiest fall and winter we’ve had in recent memory, may have taken me a bit farther than desired with that topic. The official start of summer is now on the horizon (just over a month away!), and it’s time to switch gears and revel in all things summer. To kick off Dez… View Post

I have been thinking over the past few years about how to keep my body healthy and fit so that I can be active as I get older. If I'm thinking about this, maybe you are too. While it’s a lot of fun talking every week about clothes, trends, and makeup, it's important to talk about what can keep us healthy and positively affect us physically, mentally, and emotionally. For me, being consistent about fitness is always an advance-and-retreat game. I'm committed for a period of time, and then I fall out of the habit. I don't think that's very unusual for most of us. But it is SO important… View Post

I have a fun style assignment for you later on in this post. But first, let’s talk about clothing care. I know – it’s not very sexy or fun. But it’s important, probably more important than you might realize when it comes to preserving your clothes and keeping them looking the way you want. Clothing preservation begins with laundering (I know, pretty exciting). Washing your favorite pieces so that they stay looking new requires a little more thought than just tossing all your lights or darks together and washing them all on the same setting. Here’s what I do to get the most life out of the things I love.… View Post

I don’t know about you, but since we are now creeping up on February, I’m starting to turn my wardrobe thoughts to spring. I know, I know, it’s still a bit far away, and it sure does still feel like winter here in Northern California (okay – it’s nothing compared to some really cold parts of the country, but relatively speaking). But the days are getting a tiny bit longer, and spring is now only eight weeks away. The stores are clearing out their winter merchandise and making room for fresh spring clothes. Maybe we should think about doing the same. Spring invites us to turn over a new… View Post

Happy New Year! A new year presents so many possibilities. A chance to start over – at least a little. Motivation to reinvent ourselves, to be who we’ve always wanted to be. The opportunity to do all those things we’ve been dreaming of. New Year’s Resolutions – in capital letters. What Is a New Year’s Resolution Anyway? Wikipedia’s definition of New Year’s resolution: “A New Year’s resolution is a tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person resolves to change an undesired trait or behavior.” So there it is. An undesired trait or behavior. When we choose to make a… View Post

Happy New Year! Almost. I have so many ideas for things to talk about as 2016 closes and a fresh, new year begins. But . . . I’m going to wait on that and spend a few relaxed days while we still have family and friends close by. I hope you are able to enjoy some peaceful days during this last week of the official holiday season. Let’s reconnect in the new year (that’s only next week!). My very best wishes to you and yours. With Christmas and Hanukkah only a few days away, I’m guessing that most of us are very busy with work, family, shopping, meal prepping. Who has time for a long read?! With that in mind, here’s some light and quick, holiday-focused fun. You’re welcome! You can spend just a bit of time on each separate section here (less than 5 minutes each), or take it in all at once. I wish you and your loved ones a peaceful holiday in whatever way you celebrate. So here we go: Holiday Beauty – Strobing, It’s All About the Light Let’s start with a little holiday beauty glow. I’m a fan of highlighting… View Post

December. Holiday season. A time for joy, goodwill, cozy fires, festive gatherings. I’m feeling the spirit of this time of year. What I’m also feeling is disorganized. Already As I was mentally flipping through a list of possible topics for this week’s post, things like How to Incorporate the Holidays into Everyday Dressing or Accessorizing for the Holidays, my thoughts kept being disrupted by my “to-do” list that has been lingering at the back of my mind and manifesting in my house. It’s been growing by the day since the holiday season officially kicked off at Thanksgiving. I keep trying to force my thoughts back to where I think they… View Post
