I have been thinking over the past few years about how to keep my body healthy and fit so that I can be active as I get older. If I'm thinking about this, maybe you are too. While it’s a lot of fun talking every week about clothes, trends, and makeup, it's important to talk about what can keep us healthy and positively affect us physically, mentally, and emotionally. For me, being consistent about fitness is always an advance-and-retreat game. I'm committed for a period of time, and then I fall out of the habit. I don't think that's very unusual for most of us. But it is SO important… View Post

It’s that time of year – holidays behind us, the start of a new year, now looking forward to spring and summer. It’s when LOTS of people are focusing on healthy eating and fitness (the packed parking lot at the gym is proof). I’m doing it too. What I want to talk about today isn’t what you are doing but what you are wearing while you’re doing it! I have always been a firm believer in the effect of dressing well for exercise. What does that mean? To me it means, of course, that I’m dressed appropriately for the activity. But it also means that I feel good in the… View Post

Happy New Year! A new year presents so many possibilities. A chance to start over – at least a little. Motivation to reinvent ourselves, to be who we’ve always wanted to be. The opportunity to do all those things we’ve been dreaming of. New Year’s Resolutions – in capital letters. What Is a New Year’s Resolution Anyway? Wikipedia’s definition of New Year’s resolution: “A New Year’s resolution is a tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person resolves to change an undesired trait or behavior.” So there it is. An undesired trait or behavior. When we choose to make a… View Post

San Francisco Street Fashion – and SantaCon I enjoy taking in street fashion – the fashion that you see on people when you are out and about. It’s kind of a hobby. It was particularly entertaining this past weekend in San Francisco for a couple reasons: SantaCon and holiday shoppers. The SantaCon revelers were pure entertainment! Hundreds of people dressed in varying degrees of Christmas-themed “attire” (I use that word loosely): Santas, reindeer, elves, holiday pajamas – pretty much anything goes. For the most part there is no reason for this event other than to have fun being silly around Christmas and have an excuse to spend the day bar… View Post

Last Sunday evening I attended a fundraising event. The fundraiser, Dear Jazzy, was in support of a local family and was similar to those many of us have known about or attended in our communities. While I was there and visiting with some people I hadn’t seen in a long time, I mentioned that I’d started writing a blog. The husband said, “Maybe you can write about tonight.” I’d been trying to come up with a Thanksgiving-appropriate blog topic, and I thought this was a great idea. So here’s the Dear Jazzy story. Jazzlin, or Jazzy, is eight years old. Although I’ve met her, I don’t really know her. I… View Post

Have you discovered The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing? When I first heard of this decluttering/organizing method, I was intrigued. I’m always interested in learning about the possible “perfect” method of organizing. After many internet searches trying to find out why this book was creating such a buzz, I decided that I’d need to buy the book to really learn what it was all about. The “KariMon Method” (a mash up of the name of Marie Kondo, Japanese organizing consultant and author of the book), in a nutshell, includes: Decluttering is done by category rather than location, i.e., instead of decluttering one room… View Post

I came across this essay years ago. I think my mother sent it to me, or maybe I read it in a magazine. I can see it in my mind on a page of print that had been torn out from some publication. It was the kind of thing that you read and know you want to save forever. And then, it disappeared. I was really sad about that, because I really had wanted to save it forever. Then I found it again just the other day – in a Facebook post that floated into my newsfeed the way random things do. I looked for a version I could copy… View Post
